Visions for a Sustainable Future

Sustainability is a term that gets tossed around quite a bit these days but what does it mean? This is something we are curious about and would like to explore more deeply with all of you. This area is set up as an interactive page where we can work together to gain some understanding of what people really want the world to be like. It is a collective visioning process. If we are indeed capable of creating our own reality, shaping our world then do we want to continue on in a world of mass environmental degradation, resource depletion, extreme inequities, and continual warfare? Or, if you could, would you choose something different?

What we want to begin to build here is a positive, creative vision for tomorrow that is contributed to by all of us together. Since we believe that the power of story is one of the most potent shapers of our lives and our world that's how we propose to begin. This space is for writing the story of the future we would like to have. Not the distant future but the relatively near future. Far enough away to be different from now but not too far for all of us to experience it. Let's say the year is 2020 - that's only 13 years away. What does your day look like? What are you eating? Where do you work? How do you spend your leisure time? What is your family like? How do get around? This is an opportunity for make believe, for pretending and imagining the most amazing, beautiful vision of your life that you can then to describe it. Or maybe you just want to begin with one sentence and the next person picks it up from there. Forget all the reasons we might need to create a sustainable future world to live in for now and just tell the stories of what the best possible world you can imagine is like so it can begin to take form.

On this page, we will collect your visions and reflect them back to you. Next door (so to speak) we can discuss what we have said or read, but here—we will just share and listen. Let the truth each of us sees just be so the vision can be crystallized.
